Christmas Memories
Christmas is, without a doubt, my favorite time of the year. I love the lights, music, food, and the general spirit that surrounds the holidays. This year was my first Christmas as a photographer. I offered a Christmas-themed mini session, and it was by far my most popular session to date. I was totally booked for all the time slots I offered, and even had to open up a second weekend! To say I was humbled was an understatement.
I was excited, but also nervous. I had never had to edit so many pictures, or coordinate so many families back-to-back. Add that to the fact that my sessions were the weekend before and immediately after Thanksgiving. All the families I was lucky to photograph were wonderful! Some I had never met before the day of the session, some were repeats clients, some were friends and family. Everyone arrived on time and were so sweet, they really helped make my job easier!
My favorite part of the Christmas mini sessions was everyone’s feedback and reviews. I was blown away by the kind words that were shared. I loved receiving Christmas cards with images I had captured, seeing social media profile pictures changed to the ones I had taken, and the fact that these amazing families were proudly sharing the sneak peeks I posted with their friends and families.
To me, Christmas is about more than the presents. Don’t get me wrong, I love a new purse, or some jewelry, and I’d never turn down a shiny new lens, but it is more about families and friends being together, and the sparkle in children’s eyes when they hear stories of Santa and Rudolph. This Christmas, not only was I fortunate enough to experience Christmas with my family, and lucky to receive some wonderful presents, but I was also given a gift from every family I photographed. I was given the gift of their smiles, enthusiasm, and excitement. Sometimes it’s the intangible gifts that are the most special.
